Performance, performance and more performance

We have invested a lot to improve Sharespace on O365, and we succeeded. Better handling of requests and sophisticated cache handling were introduced to improve the performance substantially.

Support of 2019 SharePoint Server on-premises

As we promised, we will support all new platforms for SharePoint. Therefore we updated Sharespace to run on a SharePoint Server 2019. As you may remember from the last release notes we, therefore, do not longer support SharePoint Server 2013 with V3. V2 still runs with 2013 server.

Save your preselected queries in the metadata document search webpart

In the last release notes, we introduced the new metadata document search which allows to search for documents based a workspace and document metadata. In V3, we now support storing the search queries to the site to provide dashboards. The web-part still lets you choose between saved queries or dynamic queries.

Replaced structured navigation with search-driven navigation

Since Microsoft has decided to no more extended support structured navigation on O365, we have been forced to introduce search-driven navigation. And we also made some improvements to it. Now it’s even faster than the structured navigation.

Kaizala integration (beta)

The integration of kaizala enables customers to reach out for their first line workers without paying additional O365 licenses.
Since almost every first-line-worker now owns a smartphone, any of them can install the free Kaizala app.
Sharespace lets you configure Kaizala corporate channels and send news and relevant information seamless to the free of charge Kaizala app.

Recycle bin for deleted workspaces

Deleted Workspace now ends up in the recycle bin. Workspace Owner has to possibility to restore erroneously deleted workspaces.

An improved global provider with auto-failover

Customers on SharePoint Online may encounter difficulties with the performance of their tenant. Since a tenant is maintained and run by Microsoft, we can’t do anything against it. The Sharespace global provider is also a tenant which provides CSS and JavaScripts. We have decided to run a multitenancy approach with failover to prevent performance issues with an impact on our customers.

Refactored Sharespace base for modern

It was a considerable effort to refactor Sharespace to set the base for further implementation based on a modern environment. Even you will not notice any of those refactoring yet; you will see the results of advanced implementations in Sharespace such as Teams in V4.

IMPORTANT

We have to inform you that the next Sharespace version (V3 with SharePoint 2019 Server support and performance improvements), which will be released in August 2019, will no longer support SharePoint Server 2013.

This is because SharePoint 2013 does not support the modern features and cannot handle them.

We also recommend planning the upgrade of SharePoint 2016 environments to SharePoint 2019 for next year.
